Issue: “ISSET_SE caused a General Protection Fault” error when trying to install program.

Solution: This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions exist:

1.       Norton AntiVirus version 4.04 is installed and Norton AutoProtect is enabled.

2.       Customer uses LiveUpdate for Norton AntiVirus to download an updated version of Norton AntiVirus.

3.       Microsoft IntelliPoint software is installed on customer’s computer, and the Point32 program is currently running.

4.       Microsoft IntelliMouse or Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball software is installed on customer’s computer, and the Mswheel program is currently running.

Workaround - use the appropriate method below, and then attempt to install the program again.

1.       Disable Norton AutoProtect Mode. To do so, right-click the Norton icon on the taskbar, and then click Disable.

2.       Obtain the latest version of LiveUpdate for Norton AntiVirus from Symantec's Web site. For more information about how to obtain LiveUpdate, contact Symantec Technical Support.

3.       Quit the Point32 program by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Close Program dialog box, selecting Point32, clicking End Task, and clicking End Task again.

4.       Quit the Mswheel program by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Close Program dialog box, selecting Mswheel, clicking End Task, and clicking End Task again.

Issue: Ininst30 error while trying to install

Solution: The error message is usually resolved by having the customer turn off or disable their anti-virus software. If that doesn’t apply or help press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and see if Mswheel is running and end task that. If that doesn’t help then end task everything except for Explorer and Systray.

ISSUE: Trying to install and getting message that program needs 15 MB free     OR

I get a message about not enough hard drive space.

Solution: Adventures with Buggles was developed for and tested on Windows 95, 98 and ME. The program can run on Windows 2000 with service pack 2 (SP2) or 3 (SP3) and XP if compatibility mode is enabled. Administrators can manually enable this feature by following these instructions:

Windows 2000 instructions:

1.       Log on as Administrator.

2.       Click Start, and then click Run.

3.       In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK, where %SystemRoot% is the drive and folder in which Windows is installed (there is a space between 32 and the first %):   regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll

Next the installation file for the program is on the CD-ROM, has to have a shortcut to it, and needs the compatibility set to Windows 95:

1.       Click on My Computer and open the Adventures with Buggles installation CD-ROM

2.       Right click the setup.exe file and left click Create Shortcut. Select Yes to the option of sending the shortcut to desktop.

3.       Right click on the shortcut, left click on Properties and click on Compatibility.

4.       Choose Windows 95.

5.       Click on the shortcut to the setup.exe file and it should install.

Windows XP instructions:

On Windows XP there is an accessory named Program Compatibility Wizard, to get to this:

1.       Click on Start, Programs, Accessories and Program Compatibility Wizard. Once the Wizard starts it guides you through the process.

2.       On the first screen click Next.

3.       Choose to use the program in the CD-ROM drive.

4.       Choose to run in Windows 98/Me compatibility and choose 256 colors.

All other screens should be self-explanatory. When prompted to send a report to Microsoft, click NO (you may have to scroll down to select No).

Issue: Getting error that refers to XOBGLU.dll files

Solution:  This workaround works sometimes but not always.  Try this:

  1. Log onto the workstation as an administrator and install the program.
  2. Open the WinNT or Windows folder (whichever is listed in the error) on the workstation’s hard drive.
  3. Two XOBGLU.dll files should be in this folder. Copy these two files to the desktop, or to a floppy disk because you need to access these files when you log onto the workstation as a restricted user.
  4. Log off the workstation and log back on as a restricted user, for example a student account.
  5. Copy the two XOBGLU.dll files from wherever you placed them into the WinNT or Windows folder. You may need to give the restricted user enough rights, temporarily, to do this.
  6. Logoff the workstation and log on again as a restricted user and try the program.

If the program runs without the error then the workaround was successful.  If the program gives the error again then this workaround doesn’t work for this program.

If the workaround doesn’t work, the only other solution is to make all users of this program Powerusers or non-restricted users.

If you are having difficulties locating these two files contact McGraw-Hill Software Support and request that they email you copies of these files.

Issue: Getting an error message that refers to Fileflexmu engine.x32 file

Solution: In a few cases the program gives this error when used in combination with some types of printer drivers. One solution is to prevent the printer driver from loading. Another solution is to reinstall the existing driver or install the latest version of the driver for the printer device.  Printer drivers can be downloaded for free from the printer manufacturer website.
