Issue: Will this program run with Acrobat Reader 7.0?

Solution: At this time we are not recommending Reader 7.0 to be used. Certain features of TeacherWorks may not function correctly with Reader 7.0. back to top

Issue: Is TeacherWorks compatible with Linux-based systems?

Solution: The base application for TeacherWorks development is Director, and it is not compatible with Linux.

Issue:  Will this program run with restricted users?

Solution: No, this program will not run with restricted users.

Issue: When attempting to install the program or create a lesson plan, I get a “Handler not defined, GetRef#” error.

Solution: This error happens when a restricted user attempts to use TeacherWorks. The user of TeacherWorks can have no restrictions to the computer they are using. In Windows this is commonly known as PowerUser rights and in Mac OSX it is marked as “Allow user to administer to Computer”. Your network administrator will need to adjust the rights of the user. This is not something Software Support can assist with.

Issue:  Of the teacher’s resources, what can be printed out?

Solution:  Any page that comes from the Teacher’s or Students editions can not be printed. Many of the other resources, such as the Blackline Master can be printed.

Issue: When printing lesson plans, not all of the information appears. (Does not apply to v1.8)

Solution: If all the information does not appear, or is cut off, you are probably printing a 5 or 7 day grid.  Instead, from the Print dialog box, choose one of the List views.  This will print all of the information for each day you specify.

Issue:  If I create a lesson plan on a Mac, can I open it on a Windows machine or vice versa?

Solution:  The lesson plans can be created on one platform and used on another depending on which way the lesson plan is saved. The easiest way to access would be to have the lesson plan put out on a server. It can then be downloaded through TeacherWorks to either a Mac or Windows machine. If the lesson plan is created on a Windows machine and saved to a floppy, it can be opened on a Mac machine. If the lesson plan is created on a Mac, it can’t be open on a Windows.

Issue: I can not print from my OSX machine while running this program.

Solution: If you are using a version of TeacherWorks that is below 1.5, a printer needs to be set up in OS9 to print correctly. For assistance with this please consult with Apple.

Issue: I’m installing a second TeacherWorks program and it’s prompting to delete the current TeacherWorks folder.

Solution: If you are running an OSX native version of TeacherWorks and you attempt to install an OS9 version of TeacherWorks, the install will delete the original OSX version. The workaround for this is to copy the book information from the CD to the TeacherWorks folder on your hard drive. Steps to do this:

1.       Insert the TW CD into the drive; double click on the CD icon.

2.       Open these folders in sequence: Application (or Media), Course, Data.

3.       Copy the folder listed within the DATA folder (will be abbreviated text name, example: MAC2NA).

4.       On your Hard Drive open these folders in sequence: TeacherWorks, Courses, DATA.

5.       Paste the copied folder into DATA (on your hard drive).

6.       Repeat steps to copy the **same name as folder**.twc file.

7.       On your Hard Drive open these folders in sequence: TeacherWorks, Courses, listed in the COURSES folder on the CD. (Open CD, Application (or Media), then Courses, there will be a xx.twc file listed there.)

8.       Copy the xx.twc file to the Courses folder on your Hard Drive (under TeacherWorks).

There is a PDF file with screen prints of the steps above available. Click on Updates, Glencoe (from the drop down menu), click on the TeacherWorks OSX Book Install link. This will prompt you to download the PDF file. Acrobat Reader is necessary to view this file.
