ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS:

Solution: At this time we are not recommending Reader 7.0. The read aloud feature in StudentWorks Plus programs will not function properly. We’d recommend using Reader 6.x.

Issue:   Will this program run on Windows XP, 2000, NT 4.0, ME,  and Macintosh OS X?

Solution:   Cursory testing performed on Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, Windows ME, and
Windows XP machines have not revealed any issues.  For Mac OSX, if Acrobat 6.0 is used the program will run in OSX. If any version of Acrobat previous to 6.0 is used, the program will run in Classic Mode.

  2. Go to the page desired to be read.
  3. Click View on the menu bar.

Issue: Having difficulty with audio playing

Solution: First, check that you are using Acrobat Reader 6.0. That is a requirement for the audio to play correctly. Also please download and install the latest update for Reader 6.0. These updates fix known issues with audio playback.

To start this process open Reader 6.0, click on Help, and then Updates.  Follow the instructions on updating. You should install the updates so your version will now be 6.0.4.

Windows

Issue:  “A Web browser has not been specified.  Do you want to configure Weblink preferences” appears after clicking a link.

Solution:   The error occurs when Adobe does not have a browser specified.  Students can access the Weblink Preference in one of two ways:

1.       Click the Yes button in the message box, then click on File,  Preferences, and  Weblink.

2.       Set the path by clicking the Browse button and browsing to the Web browser.  For example, browse to C:/ Program Files/ Internet Explorer/ IExplorer.exe.  Ensure the Connection Type reads the correct browser.  Restart Student Works and try the link again.

Issue:  How do I increase memory allocated to Acrobat Reader?  (OS 8.6 - 9.2.2 only)

Solution:  This is optional but may increase the speed of StudentWorks and decrease out-of-memory errors on certain computers.

1.       Ensure the Finder is active and click Apple Menu. Select About This Computer, and note the amount for the Largest Unused Block.

2.       Find and click once on the Acrobat Reader icon on the hard drive.

3.       In the menu select:

  • On OS 8.6 and higher, select - File...Get Info and then Memory.  Next, in the Information box, click the pull down Show menu and choose Memory.
  • On  OS 8.5 and lower, select - File...Get Info

4.       For Preferred Memory, enter an amount approximately ten percent less than the available memory noted above.  If you plan to run other programs with Acrobat Reader open, decrease this amount to accommodate the other programs’ memory allocations.  Enter this amount in the Preferred Size box.  To run other programs with Acrobat Reader, you may have to open them first.
