Issue:  Difficulty Using the Login Screen.

Solution:  The user needs to type slowly when entering their login information. In addition, when the user tries to correct a mistyped password, the program may insert spaces that are not visible but are read as extra characters. When retyping the name or password, delete the whole word and then retype it.

Issue:  After logging in, the program states "No Installed Lessons."

Solution:  The correct PASS CD needs to be in the CD-ROM drive while using the program.

Issue: When previewing a lesson, an instructor receives the error, “Could not open database. Please contact Glencoe Technical Support.”

Solution:  The PASS CD needs to be in the CD-ROM drive while using the program.  For PASS programs with multiple CD-ROMs, make sure the CD matches the part of the program you are logging into. (i.e. Part 1 of the program requires Disc 1 in the drive.)

Issue:  When previewing a lesson, an instructor receives “Error -108.”

Solution:  Instructors can preview lessons while in the Pass Management System. To take advantage of this feature, you must have at least 12.5 MB of free RAM. If you receive error message  -108 while trying to preview a lesson, you do not have enough free RAM to run both the Management System and student lessons simultaneously. You can still preview a lesson by following these steps:

  1. Create a new student.
  2. Exit the Pass Management System.
  3. Double-Click the Pass student Login icon in the Pass folder on your hard drive.
  4. Use your new student user name and password to log in.

Issue:  The program functions slowly or there is no hourglass.

Solution:  During and after enrolling a large number of students, some functions can take several seconds or minutes to complete. To help increase speed, the administrator should archive old or inactive student files and remove them from the database. Additionally, no other applications should be running while using the program.

Issue:  When the "Edit Group" text entry box appears, no information is displayed.

Solution:  A zero "0" was entered in the first line while entering a new student, instructor, or group name. Do not enter a zero on the first line while creating a new record. To adjust the group or instructor information, delete the old record and then create a new one. Students previously assigned to that teacher or group will need to be reassigned. If a student hasn't taken any lessons, the user should delete the student record and re-enter it. Otherwise, deleting students will delete their records if they have already taken any tests.

Issue:  Unable to change a single letter from lowercase to uppercase in the Edit group, the function is not saved.

Solution:  The user must completely change the name of the group (example: "group" to "word") then they can go back and change the tab with a capital letter (example: "word" to "Group").

Issue:  The Group Information field is blank even though there have been groups added to the database.

Solution: This occurs when the user deletes all the students in the database and then clicks into the Groups or Instructor screen. After the user adds a single student, then all the Group and Instructor information will reappear.

Issue: After importing the roster, a comma appears in the List of Students.

Solution: The comma will show up if there are two hard returns after the last student name in the import file.

NOTE: There should be a single hard return after the last name in the roster list. To get rid of the comma that has already been imported, simply delete it from the list of students.

Issue: While printing reports a blank page prints out afterward.

Solution: There is no fix. This will be addressed in future versions.

Issue: The title is cut off on printouts.

Solution: At this time there is no fix available.

Issue: Where do I find the End-of-course, National Standardized, and MS Proficiency Tests that the package cover copy says are available when using MathPass?

Solution:  There are no End-of-course, National Standardized, and MS Proficiency Tests on the CD. The cover is not very clear - what it really means is that MathPASS is a test prep aid for these tests.

Issue: The text on the screen overlaps.

Solution: The student should exit the program and restart the computer. The student should then be able to continue taking the lesson as usual.

Issue: The palette flashes when previewing a lesson or navigating in one, the screen will briefly flash with the wrong colors.

Solution: Adjust the color and size settings for the monitor. Color should be set to higher than 256 colors and size should be 640x480.

Issue: A ghost image of a Dialog box flashes briefly on the screen.

Solution: This happens after selecting an option from the "File" or "Activities" pull-down menus. The speed (MHz) of the computer affects the duration of the ghost image. The slower the computer, the longer the ghost image may appear. The image disappears on its own and does not affect functionality of the product.

Issue: Script Errors

Solution: The user must exit the program entirely and re-enter. Otherwise, Script Error will inhibit major program functionality.

Issue:  (Language Arts PASS) Discs 1 and 2 both contain the Disc 2 information.

Solution:  Please contact Glencoe Software Support at 1-800-437-3715 Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm Eastern Time.

Windows:

Issue:  Will this program run on Windows XP, 2000, NT 4.0, and ME?

Solution:  Cursory testing performed on Windows XP, 2000, NT 4.0, and ME machines have not revealed any issues.

"Our customers use a wide variety of operating systems and applications, and our software must be developed to be used on some lower end systems to meet customer needs.  Because of this, we cannot guarantee our software will always work as expected as new operating systems and other applications are developed.  We encourage you to give our products a 'test drive' on any new system you plan to implement.  If you are not satisfied with the performance of our product, we will do our best to deliver a compatible product to you in a timely manner or refund your money."

Issue: (MathPass for Mathematics: Applications and Concepts) The installers for Courses 1, 2, and 3 all install the content for Course 1 on Windows 98, but work correctly on all other versions of Windows.

Solution: The MathPass CD (dated 4-03) for Math Applications and Concepts offers Courses 1-3 all on one CD. However when trying to install Courses 2 and 3 on a workstation running Windows 98, only Course 1 installs. This only occurs on workstations running Windows 98 and does not affect XP workstations running in Windows 98 compatibility mode. If these courses are installed on workstations running Windows 95, NT, 2000, ME or XP the proper courses are installed.

Workaround for Windows 98 workstations:

  1. On a computer running other than Windows 98, install courses 1, 2, and 3 to the hard drive.  The default location is C:\Program Files\MathPASS Course X (X refers to Course 1, 2, or 3).
  2. Locate the mathpassX.ini (X refers to Course 1, 2, or 3) in the C:\Windows (or WinNT) directory.
  3. Copy the three MathPASS Course X folders from Step 1 and the three INI files from Step 2 to an accessible network location or burn them to a CD.
  4. Copy the three MathPASS Course X folders from the network location or CD from Step 3 to the C:\Program Files folder on the target Windows 98 workstation.
  5. Copy the three mathpassX.ini files from the network location or CD from Step 3 to the C:\Windows folder on the target Windows 98workstation.
  6. Make a shortcut to the mathpass.exe file in each of the three MathPASS Course X folders, and label them accordingly.
  7. Make sure the original MathPASS CD, not the burned CD mentioned in Step 3, is in the CD-ROM drive when running the program.

Issue:  "There was an error while loading the plug-in 'CreatePDF.API'  Two plug-ins are attempting to register with the same name."

Solution:  When the user installs Acrobat Reader from the AlgePASS CD after uninstalling an older version of Acrobat Reader, the error message appears when starting Reader.  The user can install Acrobat Reader from another source, such as downloading it from the Internet.
