ISSUES General:
What
version of Acrobat Reader is needed to view the OSEs? I lost my
username and/or password. I used
the username and password before, but now they do not work. When I
tried to access a page the operation timed out. Error: The
specified file docs/***.pdf does not exist. I am trying
to find a reading selection, but it is not listed. Can you
download/print/edit the OSE? I
receive the error “403 Access Denied” when accessing the OSE. |

ISSUES Windows:
How do I
configure the Student Editions to work with my browser? I have a
Glencoe book, but I do not see an online student edition for my copyright
year. |

Issue: Error: The specified file docs/***.pdf does
not exist. |
||
|
|
||
|
Solution:
Clear all off-line content, If that does not work try
these steps: 1.
Open Acrobat
Reader 6.0 (this also works with 7.0). 2.
Click on Edit
and then Preferences. 3.
Click on
Internet (on the left side of the screen). 4.
Uncheck Display PDF in browser and click the OK button at the bottom. 5.
Follow steps
2-3 again only this time recheck the Display
PDF in browser box. 6.
Click OK then
exit Acrobat. Start Internet Explorer
and log back into the OSE; the pages should now all be visible. You could also download a
fresh installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html. |

Issue:
I have Windows 98, and I cannot download Adobe Reader 6.0 so I can use the
Online Student Editions for 2005. |
||
|
|
||
|
Solution: Per Adobe’s website, if you are using Windows 98,
it says you can download Acrobat Reader 5.0. If you have Windows 98SE
(Second Edition) it will allow you to download Adobe Reader 6.0.1. |

Issue: I receive the error “403
Access Denied” when accessing the OSE. |
||
|
|
||
|
Solution: We
typically see this issue on a Windows computer using the new Firefox browser
or on a MAC OSX machine. Please see below if this is the case: MAC OSX: We have been continuing
our research on the Online Student Editions (OSE) on their issue with OSX
machines. We are recommending a 3rd party plug in that may assist with using
the OSEs. We can not guarantee that this will solve the issue nor do we
support the use of the plug-in. You can go to http://www.schubert-it.com/downloads/ and
download the PDF Browser Plug-in. Please check for the correct plug-in for
your OSX version.
The overall situation
resides when using OSX and PDF files within an internet browser. This issue
is not limited to Glencoe’s Online Student Editions. It is a known issue with
MAC internet browsers viewing the PDF files within the browser window. Windows: Users that have I.E. and
Acrobat Reader 6.0 should not run across any 403 errors when using the Online
Student Editions. If a user is on a Windows machine using the Firefox or
Netscape browser they may run across this issue. The recommended browser for
Windows machines is Internet Explorer. If a Windows user with
I.E. does encounter this issue, please clear the cache and reboot the
computer before trying again. |
