Multimedia CD-ROM products provide engaging activities and real-world applications correlated to each chapter in the student books.

ISSUES:

General

Is the program networkable?

I am trying to access the protractor, ruler and graph button on the "TOOLS" menu but they are not active.

Will the program run on an external CD-ROM drive?

While running the program a fatal exception occurs

I added names in teacher management and at student logon but all I get 'user name not defined'.

I am trying to log onto the software but it keeps asking me for a user name and password.

When I try and start to run my program it is asking me for a management floppy disk.

Error type 3 keeps occurring and then kicks me out of the program.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

NOTE: "Our customer base uses a wide variety of operating systems and applications and our software must be developed to be used on some lower end systems to meet our customer needs. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that our software will always work as expected as new operating systems and other applications are developed. We encourage you to give our products a 'test drive' on any new system you plan to implement. If you are not satisfied with the performance of our products, we will do our best to deliver a compatible product to you in a timely manner or refund your money."

Cursory testing was done on this product for Windows NT, Windows ME, and Windows 2000 machines and no problems were detected.

Windows:

  • IBM Compatible 486DX/33MHz processor or better
  • 8MB RAM
  • 10MB hard drive free space
  • Sound capability with microphone
  • Double speed CD-ROM drive
  • 256 color VGA monitor
  • 100 percent Microsoft-compatible mouse
  • Keyboard
  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or better operating system
  • 3.5 " disk drive
  • Optional: LCD, or large monitor for whole-class instruction and student presentation.

INSTALLATION TIPS:

Windows 3.1-

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive
  2. Open Program Manager
  3. To install the program, choose RUN from the File menu.
  4. In the Command Line text box, type the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and type the word "Setup.exe". (Example: d:\Setup.exe)
  5. If your computer does not already have QuickTime for Windows, it must be installed.
  6. To install QuickTime choose RUN from the FILE menu, type the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and type the word QT16.exe.

Windows 95/95:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. To install the program choose Start, Run.
  3. In the Command Line text box, type the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and type the word "Setup.exe". (Example: d:\Setup.exe)
  4. If your computer does not already have QuickTime for Windows, it must be installed. (It is included on the CD-ROM)
  5. To install QuickTime choose Run from the Start menu, type the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive followed by a colon and type the word QT32.exe.

Macintosh:

  1. Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Select the CD-ROM program icon to open the program.
  3. If your computer does not already have QuickTime installed, it must be installed.
  • Copy the contents of the Mac QuickTime into your System Folder to have it install onto your machine. Restart your machine.
  • For best viewing ensure your screen settings are at 640 by 480.

ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS:

Issue: Is the program networkable?

Solution: No, the CD-ROM must be in the computer for the program to run.

Issue: I am trying to access the protractor, ruler and graph button on the "TOOLS" menu but they are not active.

Solution: The three tools are only available in the Resource Lesson.

Issue: Will the program run on an external CD-ROM drive?

Solution: No, the program was created to run in internal drives only.

Issue: While running the program a fatal exception occurs.

Solution: Lower the acceleration to none, and check to see if the QuickTime Draw Method is set to video driver.

Issue: I added names in teacher management and at student logon but all I get 'user name not defined'.

Solution: A user list and a group must be created.

  1. On the CD drive, double click the Minstall.exe and respond YES to install the management system.
  2. Reboot the computer, per instructions in the users manual.
  3. On the CD drive, double click the flopcopy.bat-to get the management file on the disk.
  4. At the C: drive, open the GLENCOE folder, then DBASE folder and double click on the ADMIN.EXE. Input the manager user name and password. Now you can add groups and user names.
  5. Click EDIT USER LIST, then CREATE GROUP.
  6. Key in the group name and press ENTER.
  7. Click on CREATE USER then add the user name(s) and password(s).
  8. When finished adding users, click on MAIN MENU.
  9. Now click on INSTALL USER LIST.
  10. QUIT
  11. Now into the program as a user:
  • Go to START, RUN
  • Type the CD drive letter and Start. Example: D:\Start
  • Enter the student name and password.

Windows

Issue: I am trying to log onto the software but it keeps asking me for a user name and password.

Solution: The management system was installed. To bypass this you will need to delete the management system.

To delete the management system:

  1. Go to Windows Explorer
  2. Select the Glencoe Folder
  3. Locate and delete the Database folder.

Issue: When I try and start to run my program it is asking me for a management floppy disk.

Solution: The management system was installed at the time of installation. Follow the instructions in the users guide for making a management disk, or you can delete the management system.

To delete the management system:

  1. Go to Windows Explorer
  2. Select the Glencoe Folder
  3. Locate and delete the Database folder.

MAC

Issue: Error type 3 keeps occurring and then kicks me out of the program.

Solution: There are two versions of QuickTime installed in the extensions folder. Remove the older version.
