ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS:

Issue: Is the program networkable?

Solution:

The following ISBNs are not networkable.  The CD is required to run on Windows and Macintosh PC’s.

Algebra 1 - 0-07-829064-3

Algebra 2 - 0-07-829072-4

Geometry - 0-02-825274-8

Glencoe Algebra Concepts and Apps - 0-07-829064-3

For the following ISBNs - If installing on Windows there is a Network playback option BUT it does not function properly.  Therefore the only functioning option is CD-ROM playback.

Geometry - 0-07-860269-6

Geometry Concepts and Apps - 0-07-860269-6

Pre-Algebra – 0-07-830868-2

Issue:  Will the program run on an external CD-ROM drive?

Solution:  No, the program was created to run in internal drives only on Windows and Macintosh.

Issue:  I chose Network Playback during the Windows install but it doesn’t work properly.   OR

I receive an error about geometry.exe -49 (or whichever program you are running)

Solution: The Network Playback option does not function properly.  The only option is to run the program from the CD-ROM.  Editorial has been informed but there is no known update timeframe.

If you choose Network Playback during installation you need to run the setup again so the program will run from the CD-ROM.  To do it:

1.       Insert the CD-ROM.  If the program begins, exit it.

2.       Double-click on My Computer, right-click on the CD-ROM drive, and then left-click on Open.

3.       Open the Support folder and click the setup.exe file.

4.       Choose CD-ROM playback and click OK.

5.       Now when you insert the CD-ROM the program should automatically begin and run from the CD-ROM.

Issue: How do you exit an activity?

Solution: There will be a 3-D cube in lower right corner, click on Activities.  This will take you back to Main Menu and there is an Exit button.

Macintosh:

1. Check that the Extensions folder within your System folder includes QuickTime 2.1 or higher, Indeo

    Video, and Intel Raw Video.

2. Quit all other programs that may be running, including Screen savers.

3. Make sure that you have enough free RAM.

If you do not have enough free RAM, it is possible to make more available by disabling unused extensions. This may affect other programs. Have your system administrator or technician help you.

For users of System 7.5 or those with the Extensions Manager Program

1.  Select the Apple pull down menu.

2.  Select Control Panels and Extensions Manager.

3.  Under the Sets menu:

a.       Save the current extensions by choosing Save Set. You might name the set “Original Extensions.”

b.       Select All Off.

c.       From the list of extensions select only those extensions listed below:

·      Apple CD-ROM (or the CD-ROM extension for your non-Apple CD drive)

·      Apple Multimedia Tuner

·      QuickTime 2.0 or greater

·      QuickTime PowerPlug (for Power Macs only)

·      Sound Manager

·      General Controls

·      Any printer extension your particular printer needs

·      Network extension (if the system is on a network)

4.  Save the new set and name it “Glencoe Algebra Products.”

5.  Restart your Macintosh.

6.  Remember to activate your original set of extensions from the “Sets” menu and restart your Macintosh before launching any other programs.

Issue: The printer is not working.

Solution: Try to print after each suggestion

1.       If applicable, turn off antivirus and/or security program(s).

2.       Power the printer Off and On again.

3.       Download the latest printer driver.

4.       If using a networked printer

  1. Attach the printer directly to the computer.  If it prints, the data is not getting through on the network.
  2. Try printing from another computer that uses the same printer.

5.       Try to print a different file in this program (in case the desired file is corrupt).  You may first need to create a new document/file.

6.       Open a different program and try to print something.

7.       In your printer properties/settings check options that deal with DPI (dots per inch), Resolution, Quality of Printing, spooling/background printing etc. Try some different settings with these features. Sometimes the Advanced button allows you to access these settings.

8.       Check the color settings on your computer to make sure it’s set to 256 colors.

9.       Try a different printer.

10.   Try a different workstation.

If none of the above worked, contact software support and provide the results for each step and the following information:

1.       What is the printer make and model?

2.       What, if any, is the error message when trying to print?

3.       Is the printer networked?

4.       Are computer ports LPT or USB?

5.   Were you able to print from this program before?  If so, what changes have been made on your

      workstation recently?

Issue: Certain colors look incorrect in the graphic images.

Solution: If you have customized your desktop colors, reset them to the default settings.

Issue: Getting error that refers to XOBGLU.dll files

Solution:  This worked for some customers:

  1. Log onto the workstation as an administrator and install the program.
  2. Open the WinNT or Windows folder (whichever is listed in the error) on the workstation’s hard drive.
  3. Two XOBGLU.dll files should be in this folder. Copy these two files to the desktop, or to a floppy disk.
  4. Exit our software program, which erases those two files from the WINNT, or Windows, folder.
  5. Go to where you copied the two files and copy the two files back into the WINNT, or Windows folder.
  6. Log off the workstation and log back on as a restricted user, for example a student account.
  7. Open the WiNNT or Windows folder and see if those two XOBGLU.dll files are still there, if they are then try running our program.  If the files aren’t there or you try running the program as a restricted user and get the error message again then that indicates our suggestion didn’t resolve the issue.

If the workaround doesn’t work, the only other solution is to make all users of this program Powerusers.

Please contact Glencoe Software Support for these files. We can be reached Monday through Friday 8am to 6pm Eastern Time at 1-800-437-3715.

Issue: The CD-ROM icon does not appear on the desktop.

Solution:

1.  Check your Extensions folder in the System folder to be sure that the required extensions are not missing or turned off.

2.  Check your SCSI connections if you have an external CD-ROM drive.

3.  Go to your hard disk and find a utility program that checks SCSI devices (such as SCSI Probe or FWB Toolkit). Scan your SCSI chain with the program to see what devices (CD, external hard drives, etc.) are connected.

4.  If your CD-ROM drive appears from within the utility program, select the Mount command.

If the steps listed above do not remedy the issue, reinstall the CD-ROM software drivers from your System installation disk.

Issue: The program will not launch on my computer when I double-click the start-up icon.

Solution:

1.  Make sure the CD is inserted into your CD-ROM drive.

2.  Quit all other programs that may be running, including screen savers and anti-virus.

3.  Check all cabling to your hardware.

4.  Confirm that you have enough free RAM:

  1. Go to the Finder (Apple icon at the upper left corner of the Screen).
  2. Pull down the Apple menu and select About this Macintosh.
  3. Check the largest unused block. If the computer has less than 5,085K, you need more RAM.

5.  If you do not have enough free RAM, you may be able to add to it by disabling Extensions that automatically load when you start your Mac. Click here to go to those instructions.

6.  Try launching an entirely different CD program (not a Glencoe CD).

Issue: The program takes too long to launch.

Solution:

1.  Approximately one minute of wait time is normal. The performance of the program has been increased by loading as much information as possible at the beginning.

2.  If using Macintosh, make sure you have enough free RAM.
