ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS: |
GENERAL ISSUES
Issue: Videos in the Technotour area do not play when you click on the video
camera. |
Solution: The user’s
guide has a typographical error, it should state “Click on the Video to
LISTEN to audio” |
Solution: The volume
of some of the audio portions was recorded lower than others; students can
turn up the volume for these words. |
Issue: Pause button not enabled when conversation is playing back. |
Solution: This is a
known issue. No information if it will
be fixed in future printings. |
Solution: It takes
sometimes 20 seconds or longer for the text to turn green with the correct
answers. Unfortunately, we were unable to speed this up any. |
Issue: Script Error: Not a text cast member. (Fill in the blanks) |
Solution: When
clicking rapidly after entering in one or two answers, this scrip error may
appear. The student will need to close
and restart the program after getting this script error, and will need to be
more patient while completing these exercises. This script error is due to a basic
function of Director, so we are not able to change it. |
Issue: Random Script error loading Bonus Round in Game - Cuanto Sabes. |
Solution: The user
randomly gets a script error when loading the bonus round - “Script
Error: Index out of range”. This occurred when playing with 2
players. When the bonus round loaded,
it would prompt for a 3rd player to bet, and then the script error
would appear. The student should click
Continue when the error appears, and should be able to finish the game. |
Issue: Missing/incorrect links to Glossary from Cluminacion Vocabulario text
link. |
Solution: When a
student double clicks on a text link word in Culminacion Vocabulario, some of
the words will not link to the correct word in the glossary. The student can overcome this problem by
scrolling to the word or using the search entry box at the top of the
glossary. |
Issue: Script Error: Property not found “#pGotoSprite” (Intro Screens) |
Solution: This error
appears if you click on the ¡Buen viaje! intro screen before the menu (i.e.
Contendio, Referencia, etc.) buttons load.
If the student clicks “Continue”, they can use the program without
problem. |
Issue: Can’t use special accent keypad in Project Name dialogue box in
Portfolio. |
Solution: When a student
is typing in a name for their portfolio, the Special Character (accent) keys
are disabled. There is no way at the
present time to enter a name with a special letter. |
Issue: Overlay boxes (Sugerencias/Nota/Imagen) show up on printout. |
Solution: If the
screen is printed while the Surgerencias box is open, the text in the
Surgerencias box will appear in the printout inside the print dialogue
box. In order to avoid this problem,
the Surgerencias box must be closed before using the print button on the
screen. |
Solution: Occurs in
Click & Highlight Question and Type & Compare exercise types. In Click & Highlight Question, the
title ¡Buen Viaje! overlaps with “number of attempts” and chapter/page info
on Printouts. In Type & Compare,
if the student fills both lines of the text entry box, then the answer text
will overlap with the question text on the printout. |
Issue: Unable to record, get “Sound Recorder Not Ready” error message, OR
just no sound. |
Solution: The
teacher or the network administrator/hardware technician will want to check
the sound settings. They will want to
check that the microphone is enabled, that the volume is at an adequate
level, that the microphone is plugged into the computer in the correct spot,
and any other functions that pertain to their system. |
Solution: Cannot access
or jump through pages in Chapter 0, Repaso, by using the Go To feature. The student can access various areas using
the Contenido menu, then use the forward arrow to move ahead to various
screens. |
Issue: Are
the conversations on the Activities Disc the same as the conversations on the
Interactive Textbook? |
Solution: Yes. |
Issue: There
is not a text dialogue box in the conversations section. |
Solution: You must
participate in some conversations before the text dialogue box appears. |
WINDOWS ISSUES |
Issue: Hitting the Escape key displays a template or jumps to another screen. |
Solution: Occurs on some screens, various exercise
types. Hitting the escape key reveals
a template, or causes the program to jump to a different page. To get the template to disappear, the
student needs to scroll forward, and then return to the desired page. Students should be advised not to hit the
escape key. |
Solution: This
problem/error message may occur if, while installing the product (setup.exe),
the Norton Virus Protection Software is enabled. The user should disable the Norton anti-virus
software that is installed on their computer before attempting to install the
product. |
Issue: Does this product run on
Windows 2000, XP or |
Solution: Cursory testing
of this product has been preformed on Windows 2000, XP and "Our customer base
uses a wide variety of operating systems and applications and our software
must be developed to be used on some lower end systems to meet our customer
needs. Because of this, we cannot
guarantee that our software will always work as expected as new operating
systems and other applications are developed.
We encourage you to give our products a 'test drive' on any new system
you plan to implement. If you are not
satisfied with the performance of our products, we will do our best to
deliver a compatible product to you in a timely manner or refund your
money." |
Issue: While playing Juego de raspaso (it's like
Jeopardy) in Chapter 9, the questions in the Vocabulary 2 column do not
appear (except question 1). In the spot where the question should be it only
states "Q2" or "Q3" etc. Also, when you click on the
bonus question (question 2) under "Culturales" a scrip error
occurs stating "cast member name expected. B090AA01" |
Solution: From
support, "This seems to work ok if I am in the right place. Note: Date
Code on problem CD is 4-99, I do not have these CDs. The CD's I have are from
our testing, 10-01." |
Solution: Per the developers,
make sure the customer is using a 10-01 or later CD-ROM, as the earlier
versions had problems. |
Solution: This problem
occurred only twice while testing, and happened while rapidly clicking
through various areas. Specifically, after clicking through various exercises
(printing occasional pages, clicking through several exercises, etc.), the
screen content disappeared, leaving only the border around the screen with
the toolbar/page indicator present. To get the screen to reappear, the user
should exit then re-launch the program. Advising the student to slow down
while going through the product should eliminate this problem entirely. |

MACINTOSH ISSUES |
Issue: Game El Tucan Pregunta works poorly on Mac, OS 8.0 and 8.1. |
Solution: When selecting
answers, the timing of the game is way off.
It takes several seconds to process clicks, doesn’t always allow you
to select an answer as it falls down the waterfall, and the SFX don’t appear
to correspond to the answer selected (because the timing is so far off). |
Issue: Special character disappears after student resumes typing in
Portfolio. |
Solution: After typing
in a text entry area, inserting an accent key, and then typing again, the
accent key will disappear. This
happens because the cursor jumps back in front of the accent key, instead of
being inserted after it. If the
student clicks the cursor after the inserted accent letter, it will remain on
the screen. |
Issue: Script Error: Handler not
defined #getAt. (Portfolio) |
Solution: Script Error:
Handler not defined #getAt when opening a non-portfolio file in
Portfolio. This script error is a
function of the program used to create Spanish and can’t be modified. Students need to be careful only to select
Portfolio files. |
Issue: Error # -108 Ram Disk |
Solution: When user
tries to connect to the Spanish 2000 Website, if the Ram disk is disabled he/she
will encounter a -108 error (ran out of memory - not enough room in heap
zone). The Ram Disk should be enabled
to avoid this error. Follow these
simple instructions to enable the Ram Disk:
1.
Open Apple/Control Panel/Memory.
2.
Click on Ram Disk – 3.
Look for virtual memory and set it to “on”. |
Solution: If the student
accidentally clicks at the end of the sentence/period, a square box is
activated, when the student enters any information, a script error index out
of range will appear. It is
recommended that student click the continue button to move on, or the next
button. This will help the student
return to the page and complete the exercise from the beginning. |
Issue: What
are the different operating systems the program has been tested on? |
Solution: 7.5, 8.1,
8.5, 8.6, 9.0, 9.0.4, 8.5.1, PowerMac G3 9.0, X |
Solution: This
program will not work with OS X. It
appears to work if the computer is restarted into OS 9.2. Classic. |
