a.       After installing the program to the teacher workstation, set up students, groups, passwords and the Save option using the Accounting Management System (see detailed instructions on pages 63-75).

b.       Close the Accounting Management System and use the Utility Disc to copy the student and group rosters and data from the teacher workstation to a floppy disk (see Using the Utility Disk in Appendix).

c.       At each student workstation, use the Teacher Disc to install the program to each student’s computer. Perform a Standalone Installation, and choose either a Full, Minimal or Custom Installation type.

d.       Transfer the students, groups, and passwords from the floppy disk to the student workstations using the Utility Disc (see Using the Utility Disc in Appendix).

Network Installation: Step 1

1.       Insert the Teacher Disc into your CD-ROM drive.

2.       Click Next on the Welcome window.

3.       Click Accept and then Next on the license agreement window to proceed with the installation.

4.       Click on the Network Installation button.

5.       Click Next to continue.

6.       Installation to a network is a two-step process. First, you must copy the program files to a network location. This is a one-time installation process. Click Step 1: Install Program Files to Network Location if it’s not already selected, and click Next to continue.

7.       You must choose a network folder where the program will install the files. Click Next to accept the default folder location (recommended) or Browse to select a different folder. Important! Be sure to make a note of the full path and folder name; you will need it during workstation installations.

8.       The next step is to select which components you want to install to the network. Your choice will be based on whether the student workstations have CD-ROM drives, or whether you would like to have the students access the program components from their CD-ROM drives due to network space requirements or other limitations or conveniences that best suit your teaching needs. Novell:

In the Network-Workstation Installation, please make sure that the server path is mapped     before the administrator chooses the folder for Installation of Server files on the Novell Server. The server should be available as a mapped drive on the user’s workstation. The installation will not proceed without selecting the proper Novell Server Installation path/Directory.

The steps to map the Novell Server drive from the Netware Client Workstation is as follows:

1.       Right click on the Novell system tray icon, prompting a menu to appear.  Select map a network drive from the menu.

2.       Specify a drive letter to map (Y, for example).

3.       Type or browse to the path to the network resource where the drive needs to be mapped.

4.       Specify the login name to use for the map.

5.       If no login name is provided, the client uses the default Windows logon username. If necessary, the client later prompts the user for the password that matches the server login username provided.

Note: Don't forget to ensure that the login name you're going to be using has adequate Trustee Rights on the mapped drive (they'll need rights to write, execute, modify, read in order to run the application).

(Optional) Check the "Always Map This Drive Letter When You Start Windows" option.

6.       Click the Map button.

Direct Mapping of all Users from the Novell Server:

For every username/client connecting to the Novell Server the Following line of code can be added.

Click on the Novell startup button and then click ConsoleOne to launch the Novell ConsoleOne window.

In the Novell Tree for each user made add the following script Novell > Users-properties > Login scripts.

·         map display off

·         map errors off

·         map Y:=Novellserver/Glencoe:

Y is the drive letter for the mapped drive of all User Workstations. On the Novell login screen, Novell server represents the server field and Glencoe represents the context field.  Once the drive is mapped, then the admin needs to ensure that the appropriate users will have access to the share.  Ordinary users (what students are likely to be) must be given additional permissions, or Trustee Rights, to the shared network folder. If they are not, then the login script you’ve added will not work. The users need to be able to write to and modify data from the share. Permissions should be adjusted accordingly.

Complete installation of the Network version of the product. This process consists of two steps:

1.       Installation of Server files on the Novell Server:  This is referred to as step one of the network installation process.  In executing step one (installation to the share/network location), users must be at the Windows machine that's going to become the client workstation. When prompted to choose where to direct the first group of files to be installed, the default is the local C drive.  Users must ignore this default, and instead navigate from the browse button to the portion of the Novell server they've already mapped on their current machine. (In other words, users shouldn't select the local C drive for any of the installation of server files to the Novell server. They should only select the mapped network drive that connects to the Novell server.) Users will need to remember the location of the Mapped drive along with the Drive letter, as this path will be needed in the 2nd step of the Network Installation. Once this step is complete, users will be asked to select the components that need to be installed to the Network drive. A screen will display the components that are installed and their respective paths will follow.

2.       Installation of Workstation files on the Client Workstation: This is referred to as step two of the network installation process.  In executing step two users must be at the Windows client machine (same machine as in step 1 above).  When prompted to choose the workstation Installation folder, the users must select a local drive on the workstation machine.(i.e. to a drive that is native to that machine.) After this the user will be asked to select the Drive where the Server files were installed earlier (The drive to which the server files were installed in step 1 of network install). The user will be required to enter the location of the mapped drive (e.g. Y:\Glencoe_server). This screen will be followed by screens which will prompt the user to select the location of the Templates and Tutorial for the program. After this the user will be provided with a screen that will confirm the user preferences for workstation Installation.

Issue:  I installed the program to the server, but when more than one student tries to access a Tutorial they receive: Where is "E:/McGraw-Hill/ELC 2003 Update/Tutorials/ PTTUT05a\ ch5_1_1.mov"?

Solution:  Although the files were installed to the server, the dialog box points to the C:\Program Files\Glencoe Accounting ELC folder. The developers are working on a resolution a workaround would be to reinstall the Tutorial files onto the hard drive.

1.       Uninstalled the Accounting software from the local machines.

2.       Re-installed the Accounting software using local paths for the tutorials and templates and the network (mapped drive) for the student data.

The “.mov” file will have different chapter numbers depending on the chapter selection.
